Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in hundreds of processes in the body, including muscle and nervous system function. Many people get enough through their diet; a supplement is primarily intended to supplement intake.
Common uses
- Supplementing in case of a (possible) deficiency
- Often used for tension, muscle cramps, and poor sleep
Dosage & use
Follow the packaging instructions (often 200–400 mg per day). Build up gradually; too much can cause loose stools. Forms such as citrate or glycinate are well absorbed.
Cautions
Caution is advised in case of impaired kidney function — consult your doctor in such cases. May affect the absorption of certain medications.
